JAMAICA’S HEALTHCARE- ESPECIALLY FOR THE POOR, THE ELDERLY, THE VERY YOUNG – HAS NEVER BEEN VIABLE- PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM PREVENTABLE DEATHS- BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF EMERGENT HELP AND RESOURCES. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. I WILL NOT BE SILENT.

Excerpt from Ras  Cardo-(c)  Diagnostic Discussions- Education for a healing of the nation. JAMAICA IN PERIL. NO END IN SIGHT TO THE SUFFERINGS OF THE PEOPLE.

WRITTEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE:

TO SAY THAT THE HEALTH-“CARE” -SYSTEM IN JAMAICA EXISTS IS A MISNOMER FOR IT WOULD BE A MISREPRESENTATION OF TRUTH, AND THOSE WHO TRULY KNOW WHAT GOES ON IN THE SYSTEM COULD RIGHTLY ASK- HEALTHCARE SYSTEM FOR WHO, AND WHERE?

We are now living in a time and an age when those who would wish to keep the -STATUS QUO- in full control over all things which makes the lives of the poor, impoverished, and uneducated, miserably long or tragically short, will eventually be exposed to all and sundry.

NO MORE BURIED INFORMATION TO KEEPING THE PEOPLE IN IGNORANCE, AND ENSLAVEMENT.

Jamaica has had a very long history of struggles and continues to do so today even in the light of some of the help it has gotten from other countries. I am here today chiefly concerned with the delivery of basic health care needs to the people.

When I look back over the years as to the health system in Jamaica, I see no change for the betterment of the people. I know that millions of dollars pours into the country from outside sources. I know that the revenues from Tourism which uses the – Reggae that was created and coined in Trench town, does not go towards the health and benefit of the people, the poor people.

I know that the conditions of the hospitals- KPH- Kingston Public Hospital, UHWI- University Hospital, Victoria Jubillee, Childrens Hospital and others such as the Bellevue Hospital have deteriorated to such a degree that those who go to work there on a daily basis lament continuously.

My late great brethren- PETER TOSH- once sang-” Too much mad people, getting ready to explode, will somebody help them to carry this load”. He was talking about the conditions of the people. The last album he made before he was assassinated for speaking the truth about the system.

Cell phone usage has now become commonplace in Jamaica. There are cell towers all over the place. Jamaica now has the capability to build TELEMEDICINE MANAGEMENT PLATFORMS- SO THAT THEY CAN REACH THE PEOPLE AND DELIVER EMERGENT CARE FOR THOSE WHO ALSO LIVE IN REMOTE AREAS OF THE ISLAND.

This can be done to give doctors full access to the treatment of people , and it does not require any specialized equipments.

I am very much aware that getting medical care to people in remote areas can be a challenge, and that long distances to the nearest help or hospital, combined with a lack of resources can and has delayed medical help to many, most of whom have died.

I WILL NOW SAY THIS THAT: JAMAICA CAN IMPLEMENT CHANGES IN THE GAPS IN ITS HEALTH SYSTEM WHICH WILL PROVIDE MEDICAL CARE AND EXPERTISE TO THOSE IN DISTANT LOCATIONS. JAMAICA CAN NOW UTILIZE THE INTERNET CONNECTIONS AVAILABLE TO BRING HELP TO THE PEOPLE.

Over the years, Jamaica has been blessed with having some of the best trained and finest health providers in the region. The reality now is this:

THESE PROVIDERS ARE HAMPERED AND HINDERED BY THE LACK OF RESOURCES NECESSARY FOR THEM TO DO THEIR JOBS.

GETTING BASIC NECESSITIES LIKE SYRINGES, MEDICATIONS, GAUZES, EQUIPMENTS, LIFE SAVING EMERGENCY DRUGS, AND TRAINING FACILITIES HAS BEEN A LONG STANDING PROBLEM.

DISPARATE COMMUNITIES, ALL OVER THE ISLAND, STRUGGLE TO HELP SAVE LIVES. IN SOME PLACES, NOT EVEN A SINGLE X-RAY MACHINE IS AVAILABLE.

Here in the USA we have several used, old, and refurbished x-ray equipments and others sitting in the basement of hospitals and healthcare facilities which in some way could be sent to the island to help the people.

I AM HERE MAKING A PLEA TO THOSE WHO CAN MAKE THIS POSSIBLE TO HELP THE PEOPLE, THAT THEY COME FORWARD AND DO SO. I WILL PERSONALLY GIVE MY TIME AND EXPERTISE IN THE HELPING OF THIS MATTER.

Too many people are dying preventable deaths in Jamaica because of the lack of adequate resources, access to emergent care, education, and those deceived by folklore.

DEATHS FROM ALL FORMS OF CANCER, CARDIAC DISEASES, SUICIDES, HYPERTENSION, DIABETES, WORRYING OVER LIFE’S STRUGGLES CONTINUES UNABATED.

FOR THOSE WHO MAY WONDER AS TO WHY I INCLUDE- WORRYING- IN THIS LIST, I WILL SAY THIS TRUTH:- WORRYING CAN CAUSE MASSIVE SYMPATHETIC STIMULATION RESULTING IN NEUROGENIC CARDIAC ARRTHYMIAS CAUSING  DEATH.

POOR PEOPLE DO A LOT OF WORRYING.

POLITICS ASIDE- THE TECHNOLOGY IS HERE TO BRING HELP TO THE PEOPLE IN JAMAICA.

THERE ARE NUMEROUS RURAL COMMUNITIES IN JAMAICA, AND THEIR RESIDENTS LACK THE RESOURCES TO TRAVEL TO GET HELP. FOR MANY IT IS OFTEN TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE.

IT IS MY HOPE THAT THOSE WHO READ THIS, AND WHO CARE ABOUT HELPING OTHERS WILL DO SO. JAMAICANS ARE A VERY PROUD PEOPLE AND WILL OFTEN REFUSE TO ASK FOR HELP EVEN IN TIMES WHEN IT MEANS THE LOSS OF LIVES.

THIS KIND OF THINKING MUST CHANGE. I SEE EDUCATION AS LIBERATION AND A HEALING OF THE NATION.

IT IS TIME TO TRANSFORM THE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN JAMAICA, AND THE TECHNOLOGY IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR IT TO DO SO.

I WILL PARTNER WITH MY YEARS OF EXPERTISE WITH THOSE WILLING TO MAKE GOOD THINGS HAPPEN FOR THE HEALTH OF THE PEOPLE OF JAMAICA.
