Excerpt from the book- R.A.S.P.E.C.T-1, (c) Ras Cardo speaks.
Written without prejudice:
I know that my created -TRENCH TOWN REGGAE- will one day change the face of Racism in America, and the face of classism and prejudice in Jamaica.
The fight against racism in America and Classism in Jamaica has been an ongoing one.
I must remind all those who think and are being misled by others in the music industry to think that Reggae is about music- that they are far from the truth.
The music industry profiteers would like to have people believe that reggae is all about music because the music is from what they make their cut throat dollars.
I am here to tell the world that this is not so. REGGAE IS THE SPIRITUAL WORDS AND MESSAGES OF THE PEOPLE PUT TO MUSIC AS THE VEHICLE FOR ITS CARRIAGE. IT TELLS THE TRUTHS OF THE SUFFERINGS AND STRUGGLES OF THE PEOPLE.
THE REGGAE AS I NAMED AND HELPED TO CREATE IT, IS ABOUT THE HUMAN CONDITIONS. I DO NOT HAVE TIME AND SPACE TO ELABORATE ON THIS HERE. THOSE WHO HAVE FOLLOWED MY WRITINGS OVER THE YEARS SHOULD KNOW THIS BY NOW.
In the struggles of the people , especially the poor and the oppressed, reggae shares an intimate relationship. It came out of the poverty that we lived in the trench town squalor for years past, and which continues today unabated in Jamaica.
Reggae speaks the truths which so many who oppressed others do not want to hear or see revealed.
In America- RACISM IS TOO DEEP FOR UNDER THE RUG TO SWEEP.
The 1960’s in America and also in Jamaica was a most volatile time.
For all the innocent blood of the youths who were slain- today, things still remains the same.
For all the life loss blood that was shed, today our youths still end up dead.
I must remember- TRAYVON MARTIN, MICHAEL BROWN, ALL THE YOUTHS KILLED ON THE CHICAGO SOUTHSIDE, THE YOUTH KILLED BY THE BORDER PATROL,THE LANDAU CASE- YOUTHS DYING ALL OVER THE PLACE.
So, I must ask America- Why have you allowed the curse to linger for so long. It is time for all of us to unite in the singing of- one love- song!
Now- I see in America a trench town that seems to follow me all over the place.
Same things going down, a lot of people being killed and profiled because of their race.
We tend to forget that no one had a choice of being born white or black, biology had it that way, its just a natural fact.
I WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE MY REGGAE EDUCATION FOR A HEALING OF THE NATION.
So I Ras cardo must hope and pray- with reggae- that we may sooon see that day when the scourge of racism and hate in America and the world will fade away. Peace and love to America, Jamaica, and all peoples of- LOVE FOR OTHERS. REGGAE IS LOVE FOR ALL PEOPLES. (c) Ras cardo speaks. All rights reserved globally.
